What shape is an odor? Video segmentation on honeybee brain recordings
Martin Strauch, Julia Rein, Informatik/Neurobiologie, Universität Konstanz
In the honeybee brain, odors are represented as spatio-temporal
activity patterns that we can record with the calcium-imaging technique.
Experiments aimed at understanding olfactory processing in the brain
require methods to automatically extract these patterns from large
volumes of video recordings.
We present algorithms for the efficient factorisation of movie matrices
into biologically meaningful components and report on recent experimental data
