Abstract:
Reconstruction of noisy images is a challenging task because the classical denoising procedures based on smoothing loose important structures like edges and segments. Structure adaptive methods aim to remove the noise while preserving such structures. We present two new structure adaptive procedures based on different ideas. The Adaptive Weights Smoothing method (AWS) is specially developed for image denoising, while Stagewise Aggregation method (SA) is effectively applied to the classification problem. The performance of the procedures is illustrated by applications to artificial and real life images and some classification examples.
