CV
Thomas Käster received the diploma and the Ph.D.
degree (Dr.-Ing.) in computer science from Bielefeld University in 2001
and 2005, respectively.
He joined the research group for
Applied Computer Science at Bielefeld University in 2001 and worked
within a sub-project of the BMB+F project LOKI (Lernen zur Organisation komplexer Systeme der Informationsverarbeitung). Within this project the image database INDI (Intelligent Navigation in digital Image
Databases) was developed which utilizes adaptive content-based
retrieval techniques to navigate through a large amount of digital
images. Besides this, the retrieval system provides a multimodal
interface that allows for easy and intuitive database navigation.
Since 2004 he was working within the project "Bildverarbeitung für
Medien", a cooperation between the Applied Computer Science Group and a
partner from industry. The project dealt with different tasks of image
processing especially interactive image segmentation.
September '05 to November '05, he spent at the Centre for Vision Research at York University, Toronto, Canada. There he joined the Active and Attentive Vision Laboratory
of Prof. John K. Tsotsos as a postdoctoral fellow. During his stay he
conducted research in the areas of computer vision and machine
learning, especially object learning and detection with separable
multilinear classifiers.
In December '05, he returned to
Germany where he joined the Applied Computer Science Group at Bielefeld
University as a postdoctoral fellow. There he was dealing with the
evaluation of multilinear, discriminant classification as well as the
investigation of human-machine interaction for image retrieval.
With the beginning of April '06 he joined the Visapix GmbH (http://www.visapix.com)
in Potsdam, Germany. There he conducts research and develops algorithms
in the field of pattern recognition, computer vision and machine
learning to solve tasks like people counting, viewer detection,
intrusion detection, lost baggage detection and infrared open-air
ground observation. Besides this, he manages projects (research &
software) and is responsible for various product managing tasks like
the development of the Vis-à-pix software People Attract or the improvement of the other Vis-à-pix applications.
Since
Thomas Käster is always looking for high challenging and demanding
tasks in the field of pattern recognition and computer vision he joined
the Pattern Recognition Company GmbH as well as the Institute of Neuro- and Bioinformatics
at Lübeck University with the beginning of November 2009. As a research
and development leader he is dealing with pattern recognition problems
in the fields of manufactoring, medical image processing as well as
applications for professional and non-professional photographers.
